about

Shane Parish - guitar
Michael Libramento - drums

Few More Days is the duo of longtime musical collaborators Shane Parish and Michael Libramento. The pair have been playing music together for more than a decade in various working jazz combos and improvised new music settings. This recording is their first official release together, a long overdue document of their shared chemistry and sensitivity.

While Parish has been releasing recordings and performing in the avant-garde for the past 15 years, working with such labels as Tzadik and Cuneiform Records, touring with his avant-rock band Ahleuchatistas and collaborating with improvisors such as Tatsuya Nakatani, Frank Rosaly, Jacob Wick, and Tashi Dorji, Libramento, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and in-demand session player, has been performing as a bassist or keyboardist or guitarist on network television programs and touring with the likes of Natalie Prass and Grace Potter, performing for President Obama, backing up Willie Nelson at Farm Aid, playing guitar in his Congolese rumba band Coconut Cake, and doing Nashville recording sessions.

Both living in Asheville, North Carolina, they have remained close friends over the course of their seemingly divergent musical paths, doing gigs together when possible, and sharing a deep kinship in their love for a wide range of eclectic music. This live recording was captured while Parish was in the process of preparing for his 2016 Tzadik Records solo acoustic album, “Undertaker Please Drive Slow”, a collection of fresh arrangements of folk and Appalachian music, so the repertoire comes from that selection, and the band name, “Few More Days”, is after the Dock Boggs tune, “I Hope I Live a Few More Days”.

The result is an organic electric conversation between two musicians who know each other deeply, and love creating in the moment. Its Sonny Sharrock meets Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Ornette meets Jean Ritchie, Jim Hall meets John Jacob Niles.

"Though Live at the Mothlight is their first duo release, it’s obvious that guitarist Shane Parish and multi-instrumentalist Michael Libramento have played together for some time. The way Parish’s inventive string work and Libramento’s attentive drumming mesh makes these five live tracks feel like glimpses of a much longer conversation. The pair’s dialogue ranges but never rambles, and is equally adept at quiet subtlety and noisy crescendo. Parish recently released a solo album on which he covers old-time folk classics, and some of those make up the pair’s repertoire here (their name is taken from one such track, Dock Boggs’ “I Hope I Live a Few More Days”). But everything on Live at the Mothlight sounds vitally present, less a nostalgia trip than a glorious way to an engage with the spirits of the past." -Mark Masters, Hi Bias/Bandcamp
